Travel protection is a package of benefits and services designed to help protect you in three ways: 1) to reimburse you for your financial investment (i.e. the cost of your travel arrangements) should a variety of unforeseeable reasons force you to cancel or interrupt your trip or delay you while traveling; 2) most importantly, to help protect you against the costs incurred during your trip for medical expenses, a medical evacuation, services to assist you in an emergency situation; and 3) to help protect against loss, damage or destruction of your personal belongings.

Some things are beyond our control. Travel protection helps protect your travel arrangements, belongings and most importantly you with coverage for: Trip Cancellation or Interruption; Medical Emergencies; Baggage (loss, damage or delay) or Trip Delay and much more.

Our plans include 24-hour Assistance Services to help you in emergency situations and we also include a service to register your important medical information which then can be accessed should the need arise during your trip.

Remember, many of your travel arrangements may be either non-refundable or subject to strict cancellation penalties. The lowest cost airfares, cruise and land packages generally include significant penalties if you are unable to actually take your trip.

Important Tip! Many people forget that trips may be canceled or interrupted due to injuries or illnesses of family members who often are not even traveling: such as parents, grandparents, children, grandchildren, aunts and uncles. Remember, travel protection covers you when something happens not only to you, but to your family members, as well.

While there are many covered reasons for Trip Cancellation, some reasons just aren’t covered. Changing your mind and discretionary reasons, for example.

With Trip Cancellation for Any Reason the freedom to cancel is yours and yours alone, provided you cancel two days or more before your scheduled departure date and have insured the full cost of your travel arrangements subject to penalties or restrictions and purchased your plan within 14 days of the date of your initial trip deposit. This benefit reimburses you for 75% of the cancellation penalty amount that applies to your travel arrangements. Of course, when canceling for a covered reasons, you are reimbursed for 100% of the cancellation penalty amount that applies to your travel arrangements.

Important Tip! Remember, like other time sensitive provisions, you must purchase Cancel for Any Reason within 14 days of the date of the initial deposit for your trip to be eligible for coverage.

Always insure the full cost of your non-refundable air, land or cruise travel arrangements.

For example, many first class airline tickets, and some business class tickets are fully refundable and fully refundable arrangements need not be insured. Only buy travel protection for those prepaid travel arrangements that are non-refundable. Frequent traveler awards, early purchase discount vouchers or credits, etc, generally are not insurable as they have no cash redemption value.

Important Tip! Insure the full cost of all prepaid, non-refundable travel arrangements, to ensure you obtain the broadest coverage possible.

When to buy your travel protection is a very important decision. We recommend purchasing your travel protection when booking your trip. Why? Most travel protection policies contain time sensitive provisions which broaden coverage when you purchase the travel protection in a timely manner. For example, some Global Alert plans have a 14 day time sensitive period to obtain full coverage. This provision applies to the waiving of Pre-Existing Conditions (Essentials and Preferred), Financial Insolvency (Essentials, Preferred and Preferred Plus) and the Cancel for Any Reason Benefit (Preferred Plus). To waive Pre-Existing Conditions for Preferred Plus, the Plan must be purchased at or before final payment for your trip.

Important Tip! Waiting until final payment for your trip is a mistake. Purchase within 14 days of your initial trip deposit and receive broader coverage at the same price than if you purchase with final payment.

Trip Cancellation coverage begins the day after the date your payment for the plan is received. All other benefits begin when your covered trip commences.

Simply, sicknesses, injuries or other medical conditions existing in the 180 day period prior to your coverage effective date for which you received diagnosis, treatment or advice are pre-existing conditions. Conditions controlled solely through medication, without a change in dosage, are not considered to be Pre-Existing Conditions.

Travel protection does not cover frequent flyer points since they have no cash redemption value. Some plans will cover re-banking fees and you can insure cash components such as taxes and cash upgrade costs.

All of our plans, cover (up to the plan limit) the additional transportation costs to join your trip and unused prepaid land or water travel arrangements, if you miss your trip departure because your arrival at your trip destination is delayed 3 hours or more due to an airline flight delay because of bad weather or any common carrier caused delay.

With the Trip Delay Benefit, you will be reimbursed (up to the plan limit), for reasonable out of pocket meal, accommodation and local transportation expenses if you are delayed (9) nine hours of more.

Our plans provide both baggage/personal effects and baggage delay benefits. If your baggage is lost, damaged or destroyed during your trip we reimburse you for the actual cash value subject to the plan limits of the items lost, damaged or destroyed.

Under the Baggage Delay Benefit, we reimburse you for the purchase of necessary personal effects when your checked baggage is delayed by an airline for 24 hours or more.

You may cancel your enrollment within the 14-day free look period and receive a refund of your plan payment, provided you have not filed a claim or departed on your trip. When so returned, the Plan Documents are void from the beginning.
